The Gilded Cage Journals

The first day of the rest of my life?  The first day of the rest of my life with you.

Kids return to school today after a week's holiday.  I return to normal today after a week of refereeing, cooking, administering medication, counselling, chauffering, party-organising etc.  Husband wisely opted to spend half-term in Hong Kong, from where he returned with a suitcase full of hotel toiletries, and has zipped off to Paris for the night tonight.

The family dog has been exiled to canine-boot-camp after biting our gardener.  She has gone to learn how to be the bottom of the pile - quite a climb-down from the position she held previously.  Many people told me that a dog in the marital bed would not have a happy outcome, and so it has come to pass.  Son is keen to swap her for a gecko or a snake.  This is the dog to whom he said "I love you" at least 10x a day...

Daughter pleased to be back at school, and out of the maternal/fraternal firing line.  She declared at her party on Saturday "I don't like cake, I don't like icing and I don't like fairies" when presented with a tray of Hummingbird Bakery (home-baked) caramel cupcakes decorated with paper-fairies-on-cocktail-sticks (cost £8.99).
